Our History
Founded in 1920 by Rudy Poturedes (Uncle Rudy), Rudy's Hot Dog is a chain of 6 restaurants in Toledo, Ohio. It all began year ago, when Uncle Rudy began the business as a single hot dog stand, eventually opening a restaurant in the 1930's. After the death of Uncle Rudy in 1960, the Dionyssiou brothers, Harry and Andreas, took over and moved the restaurant to it's current location on Sylvania avenue in 1971.
Over the years Rudy's has remained a staple of Toledo. Former toledoans even come back to dine, some even share stories from their grandfathers and great grandfathers about coming to Rudy's. That's what makes us what we are today. The legacy has been passed down from generation to generation. The Rudy's "retro" nostalgia will always remain.
Each restaurant is owned and operated by a family member, each who works hard at continuing the legacy that began over 90 years ago. Harry and Andreas are presidents of the Rudy's company, and run their "hot dog empire" with lots of hard work and family pride. In fact, if you stop by the original location at 946 West Sylvania Avenue in Toledo, you can see the brothers working side by side today. AND if you're a regular, they will surely remember your name.
Rudy's has since grown from the days of the past. BUT we will always stay true to what Rudy's is all about (and don't you try and get us to give you our secret family recipe:) There are a variety of menu options available, but of course the most popular item that has remained is the now FAMOUS Rudy Dog. They sell over 10,000 hot dogs a day. Tradition calls for mustard onion and our famous Rudy's HOt Dog Sauce...but of course, you can have your any way you'd like! YOu can go online and order our Famous Hot Dog Sauce and Chili with Beans and have it shipped straight to your door....grab a hat or a T-shirt or apron while you're there!
Hand poured shakes, homemade soups and chili, french fries, Greek salad, breakfast ALL DAY.... Won't you stop by for a visit so you can see why we are voted number one chili dog in the city of Toledo? Uncle Rudy says you won't be sorry!

Rudy's, the King of Hot Dogs Crowns the President. What a WEEKEND this has been! President Barack Obama decided on Friday, June 3rd, 2011, to dine in at our orginal Rudy's location on Sylvania Avenue...how truly lucky were we! He noshed on a couple of dogs with everything, some fries, and a bowl of our famous chili and hope he loved every last drop! Thank you to Mayor Bell and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur for "tipping him off" to our almost famous restaurant. :) We are so greatful to have hosted all of you and know that we were lucky to have experienced this ONCE in a LIFETIME opportunity! That small visit has put our family business on the "map"...celebrating 91 years this year and counting! Andy, Harry and the REST of the Rudy's family THANK YOU ALL for making us the #1 CHILI DOG in the city!
